The West of the County is home not only to superb scenery but also to some of the larger towns of Cumbria. Where there are people, there's history and tradition - some of which may strike visitors as a little bizarre ! The World Gurning Championships for example, is held at the annual Egremont Crab Fair (see the picture of Eric above), along with the competition to find The World's Biggest Liar.
This full day tour will show you the picturesque town of Whitehaven where you can see its Georgian architecture or learn about the maritime links to the American slave trade. You can visit an excellent museum which tells The Whitehaven Rum Story.
As in almost all of Cumbria throughout the summer months, there are numerous country fairs, town and village carnivals and sporting occasions. Any of these events will provide visitors with the opportunity to see and learn a little more of the different culture and traditions of this remote part of England. Whether you want to see these urban oddities or stick to the quieter rural attractions West Cumbria has plenty to offer. Just call Tom and discuss your preferences.
